Borussia Dortmund leads the Bundesliga table, but the chasing side from Munich appears relaxed and motivated. Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer used the record champions' traditional Oktoberfest visit to announce the hunt for the league leaders.
"You have to see the relation. We have now scored 14 goals in four games and only conceded two," said the 72-year-old in the Käfer tent. "The 0-0 in Schalke, that can always happen. Even there we were the dominant team."
Hainer stressed that the final reckoning comes at the end and they naturally want to be at the front. The Black and Yellows solidified their top spot with twelve points from four games after a 1-0 away win at VfB Stuttgart last Saturday, sitting two points clear of Bayern. The full overview of the standings shows the tight constellation at the summit.
Hoeneß: "Everything okay" after rout
The Munich side headed into the Oktoberfest weekend with a 7-0 rout of Union Berlin. Honorary president Uli Hoeneß commented succinctly on the clear result: "When you win 7-0, everything is okay!" The team around Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich celebrated the win first in the Schützen-Festzelt on Saturday and continued the festivities on Sunday noon. Hainer gave the players free rein: "As many as go in. Everyone has free passage today," he said regarding beer consumption.
The international break offers a rare opportunity, according to Hainer. "We are in absolute Oktoberfest mood!" For the Bayern stars, the break means a training pause initially.
Dortmund with perfect streak
Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, looks back on a flawless streak of five consecutive wins, most recently through a goal by Maximilian Beier in Stuttgart. Edin Terzic's team has scored nine goals and conceded only two this season. All details on the current squad and their performances are available online.
Borussia's next outing is scheduled for October 9th against Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park. The clash with the sixth-placed side is the next step to defend the lead. In the last meeting in January, Dortmund won 3-0.
