Borussia Dortmund made a perfect start to the season and sits in fifth place in the Bundesliga table with three points. BVB won the home match against HSV 2-0 and now prepares for a historic DFB-Pokal match against fifth-division side HEBC.

Borussia Dortmund dominated the first half against HSV and took an early lead. Serhou Guirassy scored the 1-0 in the ninth minute after converting a pass from new signing Konstantinos Karetsas. BVB controlled the game and created several more chances before Giannis Konstantelias sealed the 2-0 final score in first-half stoppage time. The goal was the Greek's first in the Bundesliga.

HSV could hardly create any danger in the first half. Dortmund consistently pressed the visitors into their own half. Hamburg improved after the break, but BVB kept a clean sheet. With this win, Dortmund sits fifth in the standings after one game with three points and a goal difference of 2:0.

In the first round of the DFB-Pokal, Borussia Dortmund faces the Hamburg-Eimsbütteler Ballspiel-Club on Tuesday evening. The match at the Volksparkstadion will be played in front of over 40,000 spectators. This figure sets a new attendance record for a cup match involving a fifth-division team.

For HEBC, the match is the biggest game in the club's history. The Oberliga side is preparing with particular enthusiasm. League manager Stilianos Vamvakidis said: "For us, it's primarily about enjoying the game and soaking everything up." Coach Philipp Obloch hopes for one or two moments that will make the crowd gasp.

Giannis Konstantelias enjoyed a dream debut in the Bundesliga. The 23-year-old Greek, who joined for 26 million euros from PAOK Thessaloniki, scored in his first league game for BVB. This places him on a list of players who marked their Dortmund debut with a goal.

This list also includes legends like Marco Reus. Konstantelias expressed satisfaction with his start in Germany after the match.

Following the defeat in Dortmund, HSV is focusing on the transfer market. Target Fabio Vieira has arrived in the city to undergo a medical. The 26-year-old Portuguese was on loan at HSV last season.

Sporting director Kathleen Krüger confirmed talks with Arsenal London. "He would of course suit us well," said Krüger. However, an agreement on a transfer fee is still pending. Arsenal is said to demand at least 15 million euros for the attacking midfielder.

After the cup match, the next Bundesliga away game awaits. Borussia Dortmund travels to face 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The opponent is currently in twelfth place in the table.
