Borussia Dortmund is in talks with FC Barcelona over a transfer for young defender Hector Fort. Separately, the club lost the German Supercup 2-1 to Bayern Munich on Saturday at Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund and Barcelona are in discussions to finalise Hector Fort's move to the Bundesliga. The negotiations concern the structure of a deal that could be worth around €10 million. However, the Catalan club is seeking a fee between €15 and €20 million, given Fort's experience at the top level.
An alternative being explored is a €10 million deal in which Barcelona would retain a percentage of the player's future transfer rights as well as a buyback clause. That buyback option could be set at around €50 million. Dortmund has sent representatives to Barcelona to iron out the details.
Hector Fort has reportedly chosen Borussia Dortmund specifically, turning down proposals from other European clubs. BVB is in desperate need of reinforcements in defence, particularly as cover and competition for Julian Ryerson. While Ryerson is known for his gritty defending and crossing, Fort could offer more technical quality, especially in build-up play.
Success is not guaranteed, however. Young talents from Barcelona have struggled to make their mark at Dortmund in the past, as seen with Mateu Morey and Sergio Gomez. Whether Fort can break that pattern is not yet clear. The club's current injury list, which includes Nico Schlotterbeck and Carney Chukwuemeka, shows the need for new signings. Borussia Dortmund lost the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup 2-1 to Bayern Munich at home on August 22. Nathaniel Brown opened the scoring for Bayern in the 28th minute, with Michael Olise adding a second just before half-time. Fábio Silva pulled a goal back for Dortmund in the 75th minute. Ramy Bensebaini was shown a late red card.
The match was the first official final of the 2026/27 season. Dortmund, last season's Bundesliga runners-up with 64 points from 29 games, aimed to make a statement in front of their home crowd. Bayern, who completed the domestic double, secured the first silverware of the new campaign instead. The detailed final standings from last season are on our standings page.
The Supercup loss is a setback to start the season but has no bearing on the league table. Dortmund finished the 2025 Bundesliga season in second place with a record of 19 wins, seven draws, and only three losses. The team scored 60 goals and conceded 29, resulting in a +31 goal difference.
However, the defeat extends the points gap to perennial rivals Bayern Munich in the all-time table to twelve points. Also, BVB will be without several key players in the coming matches. In addition to the suspended Bensebaini, the latest injuries report lists Nico Schlotterbeck and Carney Chukwuemeka as sidelined.
Focus now shifts to the first Bundesliga home game of the season on August 29 against Hamburger SV. HSV currently sits in 13th place. It's key for Dortmund to quickly move on from the Supercup disappointment and start the new league campaign with a victory. The injury situation and potential new signings like Hector Fort will significantly influence the plans of the coach and sporting director in the coming days. All upcoming fixtures are listed in the fixtures calendar.
