Giannis Konstantelias scored on his Bundesliga debut for Borussia Dortmund. The club sits fifth in the table with three points from one game and faces five competitive matches in September.
Giannis Konstantelias found the net in the 2-0 opening day win against Hamburg for his first Bundesliga goal. The 23-year-old Greek, signed for €26 million from PAOK Thessaloniki, scored after a good run into the box. This places him among players who scored on their first league appearance for BVB.
Marco Reus needed just 11 minutes for his debut goal in 2012. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted a hat-trick against Augsburg in 2013. Erling Haaland matched that feat in 2020, also against Augsburg, after coming off the bench. Other debut scorers include Michy Batshuayi, who scored twice in 2018, and Milos Jojic, who scored 17 seconds after coming on in 2014.
Borussia Dortmund will play five official matches across three competitions in September. The month began with a DFB-Pokal tie against HEBC. A Bundesliga away game at TSG Hoffenheim follows on September 5. The Champions League campaign starts on September 9 with a home match against Villarreal.
On September 12, Dortmund hosts newly-promoted SC Paderborn 07 in the league. Paderborn currently sits in 12th place. The busy period concludes with an away fixture at VfB Stuttgart on September 19. The full schedule is available on our fixtures page.
Borussia Dortmund's injury list is currently extensive. Alongside debutant Giannis Konstantelias, Justin Lerma, Nico Schlotterbeck and Ramy Bensebaini are also sidelined. Manager Niko Kovac will be without several key players for the upcoming matches.
Despite these absences, BVB started the season with a win. The team has scored two goals and conceded none so far. The current league position and further statistics can be found on our standings page. Details on the injury-reduced squad are available in the injuries overview.
Borussia Dortmund's next Bundesliga match is at home against SC Paderborn 07 on September 12.
