Norway manager Stale Solbakken has praised the development of Borussia Dortmund defender Julian Ryerson. The 58-year-old stated the 28-year-old has developed remarkably in German football and exceeded expectations. "That's why he has exceeded expectations, I think," Solbakken said. The coach added that he believes there is still more to come from the player.

Versatility a key asset

Ryerson transferred from Union Berlin to Dortmund for five million euros in the winter of 2023 and immediately became a regular starter. Solbakken highlighted his versatility. The Norwegian can play on both the right and left defensive flank and has also filled in midfield for his national team. His physicality is described as very good, with his game understanding and combination play having improved significantly. Last season, Ryerson registered 18 assists across all competitions, making him Dortmund's top provider. Solbakken described this progress as the result of very good scouting by the German club.

Injury doubt for Glimt clash

Currently, Ryerson's availability is in doubt. He already missed the 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen last weekend due to a rib bruise. Whether he will be fit for the Champions League match on Wednesday at 21:00 against Norwegian side FK Bodö/Glimt remains uncertain. His familiarity with conditions in Norway could be valuable. The defender has earned 50 caps for his country. Dortmund, meanwhile, sit second in the Bundesliga table with 13 points from five games. Their next challenge is away to 16th-placed Union Berlin on Saturday. The final decision on Ryerson's availability for the European fixture will be made on Wednesday.
